Really dug the interview. THough I’d hoped to maybe see a joke about Colbertism mentioned in the book.

Great job Douglas! I liked how you rolled through the joke-y questions and made a real point in response. I love Colbert, but often his interviews are too much him making joke-questions and the guest goes along with the diversion or sits there stunned as the joke questions proliferate. You handled his “interview style” as well as anyone I remember!

That was totally awesome!

I watched the broadcast — glad to see you up there spreading those ideas. I felt as though it was too short.

Great!
As some commented in the previous blog
Colbert did seem to allow a lot of space for you
to get open.
It seemed like he was intrigued by the way you
described the thesis of the book.
Super happy the material in your book has been
broadcast throughout the Colbert Nation, haha

Again, amazing! Top notch how you two managed to get the complex message out so very poignantly, all the while leaving room for moments of calm reflection and humorous levity. In under 6 minutes!
I’m wondering: wouldn’t it be interesting to come up with a “Colbert Charter”? Something he can play King and/or feudal lord with in the Colbert Nation? We already know how much power he can yield in terms of Wikipedia tomfoolery and the like…
Could be an interesting avenue. Heaps of fun, too

congratulations on the interview! I hope this gets more people to check the book out.
thanks!

Nice one Doug.
#9 Posted by Andrew (17.07.09 at 07:22 )
Well handled. Certainly one of the best interviews I’ve seen on Colbert’s show.

And for those of you in Canada, the link is here. Clip 3 from the show of 07/15/09.

You did very well! What a pleasure to watch. And yes, Naomi Klein is a rock star.
#12 Posted by javier (17.07.09 at 12:38 )
It was great to see the ideas of your book being expressed in a show with such a big audience. I hope it keeps spreading. Congratulations!
#13 Posted by Peter Smith (17.07.09 at 17:34 )
great opening line. almost like it was….planned??
i don’t get the Naomi Klein ref. did someone mention her name?
#14 Posted by Regular Reader (17.07.09 at 17:37 )
That went great – it felt like you covered the book’s main ideas and were just getting started on human nature vs corporatism when time ran out.
Colbert’s “when did this start” question was certainly helpful.
Seemed like the audience was really into it: he should have you back sometime.

By the way, Stephen wasn’t lying: see for yourself at watchmenap.com.

I discovered your work thanks to this interview and I’m really impressed. You really stood out compared to most other guests and it was truly a pleasure to listen to the interview. I’m looking forward to reading your new book as well.
#17 Posted by D (24.07.09 at 01:58 )
wow, Colbert is really quick…the “i’ll start talking soon” line, “bleak stimulus package”, and “nap webcam” idea. (I’m sure they registered the last one right after the show was taped). You handled him very well though.
#18 Posted by Douglas (24.07.09 at 09:41 )
WatchmeNap.com was registered the morning after the interview, so I guess you’re right!
#19 Posted by Sleeper (04.08.09 at 12:48 )
I am now going to take a long-long nap in order to crush the corporate
structure.
Join me!
Long live mr Rushkoff!

astute. nicely handled. wicked!
#21 Posted by Robert (02.10.09 at 09:12 )
The fact that it goes to an ad break right after the interview is finished is not only ironic but it completely backs up Douglas’ point.
#22 Posted by brettrobbins (21.10.09 at 23:47 )
Excellent Job! Definitely sold a shit-load of books from this one!
#23 Posted by phrige (02.12.09 at 11:23 )
Awsome interview, Great job on the show and good luck with your book.
#24 Posted by brettrobbins (17.01.10 at 00:39 )
Just excellent, Douglas. You really played it well, while managing to get across some of your key insights. Nice job.
#25 Posted by brettrobbins (17.01.10 at 00:42 )
Just realize I double- (and now, I guess, triple-) posted. Oh well. I liked the fricking interview; sue me.

It makes my day to see that Doug Rushkoff was on the Colbert Report… Several friends have confessed they get all their news from Colbert’s show — perhaps it will leave them and many others wanting more information. I think Doug did a fantastic job of conveying his views (unique in all the world as far as I know), and at the same time rolled along well with Colbert’s interviewing style.
#27 Posted by Douglas (06.03.10 at 08:23 )
Sweet of you to say. It was certainly a high point for me.
Though it also gave me false confidence that these ideas would spread more than they did. (Or a least about my book sales!)
I suppose the ideas *are* spreading.

Very good and insightfull Douglas. Thanks for sharing this with the world. Keep the positive spirit up!

FAIL. Video is 3 seconds long of blankness.
#30 Posted by Douglas (16.08.10 at 20:18 )
That stinks.
And I can’t even find the page now via my wordpress interface. It just isn’t showing up. Fun.

Okay. At least I got the link, now. I will re-attempt embedding once it seems to want to play.
